A MESSAGE FROM THE ASSISTANT FOR STEWARDSHIP & PARISH DEVELOPMENT

A MESSAGE FROM THE ASSISTANT FOR STEWARDSHIP & PARISH DEVELOPMENTHappy Pentecost!  I feel like this is the season of All Saints Church, the season of the gift of the Holy Spirit to the church!  The disciples were frightened and unsure until the fire of the Holy Spirit lit upon them and then they went out into the world their hearts and minds ablaze with the mission of bringing  the story of our salvation through His Son to the entire world.  That spirit is so evident at All Saints, you can almost touch it!  That was one of the first things that Bishop Douglas said to me when he visited in May, that he could feel the spirit in this place.  And that was before he had his Eggs Benedict for breakfast!  So what should we do with that spirit?  Why is the Holy Spirit with us at All Saints?  I have some ideas…if you are wondering how you could do something with this gift of the spirit, you could-
  1. Be involved in Christian formation for adults and children.  Teach Sunday school.  We have a small but eager group of mini disciples growing in our church.  It is great fun to help them explore their faith (and you learn more about your own in the process)!
  2. Join the Altar Guild.  We have generated some interest among our new members, but we have many women that have served long and hard that deserve a break!  What would it mean to you to set the Lord’s Table each week?  And by the way, men are welcome to volunteer for this loving ministry as well as women!
  3. Get involved in pastoral care.  We need drivers, visitors; people to be All Saints Church out in the community for our members that can’t make it to church, for the homebound.
  4. Join the Stewardship committee.  How do we share our time, talents and treasure?  How do we challenge and inspire each other to do so?  All ideas are welcome!
  5. Join the choir!  Those who sing pray twice!
  6. Join in the Mission of our church.  We work with local charities and have a sponsor child in Ethiopia.  Is God calling you to share his love in the world?  This is a great place to be able to do that work.
This list is the beginning of the many ways that the Spirit could inspire your work at All Saints.  This is a great opportunity for us to spend some meaningful time discerning what we are being called to do with our ministry in this church.  We are all ministers of the word of God.  How do you speak the message?   Peace - Mary
